Review on DoppelgangeR album 'Saturnian Rings' by Dj Death

Black CaT: Review on DoppelgangeR album 'Saturnian Rings' by Dj Death 'Saturnian Rings' is the latest release from Moscow's Doppelganger. It's their 3rd full length release on CD and 5th album so far.. The band have existed for 12 years but what I really like is that being from Eastern Europe they have a fresh, and inspiring sound, compared to the staleness which hangs over the West and it's easy acceptance of cloned bands from the glory days of UK Gothic music. For a three piece Doppelganger have a very tight sound which has been crafted during the last 12 years which has seen the band evolve and change it's line-up. Unlike the norm for Gothic Rock bands they don't just churn out 3 minute wonder tracks but longer tracks which fit perfectly to soundscape of an LP. Something that they have in common with Fields Of The Nephilim who had the knack of making great albums. The lyrical content of the album has been influenced by the Roman God Saturn in medieval alchemic teachings and the Austrian writer Gustav Meyrink. Stand out tracks are 'Cinnamon Yard' which has more than a hint of classic Gothic rock about it, but at the same time, has a stripped down sparsness with its skeletal musical arrangement. 'Buddha is My Shelter' - a song that will have you jumping around the dancefloor and has the charm to be a deathrock classic. 'Vivo' is another song worthy of gracing any DJ's set of Deathrock music. 'In the Box' is a stunning track, the guitar riff has more than a hint of "Romeo's Distress" however the clever thing about this song is that works as a fitting substitute and will get people dancing to something new. I would be surprised if this doesn't find it's way onto one of Strobelight's "New Dark Age" compilations. 'Out of Rain' - damn catchy, another song which should get played in Gothic clubs. '8&8' - deathrock perfection in 3 minutes. 'I Am Not Going to Listen to You Now!!!' another monster is unleashed and this will have you zombfied on the dancefloor. Secrecy Twilight Mix - 'Democracy’s Undead' - a full on electro version which will have you stomping on the dancefloor and would easily feel at home in a set of electro music. The Way Of All Flesh Mix -' Democracy’s Undead' - interesting version which has a hint of Rammstein about it. Another great release and shows the talent the Shadowplay have on their label. If you want something new and refreshing then get your hands on this now! http://www.doppelganger.ru/press/rev_sat_djdeath07_en.phtml http://djdeath.livejournal.com/59423.html
